Has anybody heard any further news on the Magistrates Court

I'd prefer a cimema for the deaf and blind.

I'd have prefered affordable housing for timid people, who don't drive and wear slippers.They could live on top of a cinema that only showed silent films and only sold soft chewy sweets (no popcorn or nachos)This would be a "cash free" cinema, with all tickets brought on-line or in advance to avoid jingling coins in pockets.KEEP BRENTFORD QUIET !

That's daft.Who would want to live above an 'eaterie' with all the accompanying cooking smells,the noise of music,of people arriving and leaving late and the noise of the bins being put out at night etc?

Sadly the Wimpy in West Ealing has gone.Nearest one to Brentford is the one in Twickenham.I blame the Tories.Civilised fast food and a knickerbocker glory -those were the days

MadDonalds I reckon, then they'll turn the old site into luxury flats.Seriously though, is it on the market? Is anyone inviting ideas on possible uses? Something like "The Old Cinema" in Chiswick would work really well methinks....

With priorities like having a Wimpy in Brentford Richard I can see that you would be a real boon to any progressive idea of how the high street should move on. I really like their milkshakes with the ice creama nd all.Is the one in West Ealing still open.In fact I am now drooling over the prospect of having a lime milkshake...

There are plans, seen by the BCC to convert the ground floor into a restaurant, return the carpark to being a public space with 9 flats over: not a bad start I thought.

The Horse & Hounds at Hanworth is now a Tesco local, many's the evening my husband and I spent there before we were married. Is the Sainsbury's local down in South St. going ahead? I think the councillors on the planning cttee. must all be mad allowing that, a worse site it would be hard to find. For all we know the Magistrates Court might be turned into a Spearmint Rhino!

I don't think the Magistrates Court will end up being a Weatherspoons.I popped into Corals last night to put a bet on a Sainsbury's Local.This is not a wild guess. The Spinning Wheel was recently replaced by one and the Duke of Wellington (Hounslow) will soon to be replaced by a Sainsbury Local.7-1, good odds too.thank me later !

Just going back to basics, planning permission (and listed building consent for any internal or external work) would be required to change the court to a public house.  But an objection based solely on the identity of the company running the pub wouldn't be a valid one, so either its okay to convert the court into a pub or it isn't, nothing to do with who the operator is.Can't remember last time I frequented a Wetherspoons for that matter...

It also means you will most likely get an EDL demonstration thrown in for good measure, as its organisers when selecting a venue tend to look for the presence of a mosque and a Wetherspoons, in no particular order.Conversely they have tended to avoid towns with a magistrate's court.

A friend of mine has just got a job cooking for down and outs,junkies and alcoholics.I asked him if it was in a charity drop in centre.He said that it wasn't,he was going to be a chef at Weatherspoons.

Dear God surley not a Wetherspoons. We have already seen enough of the local pubs closing a Wetherspoons will finish the rest of them of. As anybody spoken to Ruth Cadbury she must have the power to stop this happening and totaly ruining Brentford High Street before its even had a chance to start

It has indeed been my misfortune to go to the Feltham Wetherspoons - once was enough.  I think you might have been being a little ironic Neil about it having a 'local feel' unless you think that Feltham is a sterile mish-mash of prefabricated,generic styles with a atmosphere of an airport departures gate area. For me it is prima facia evidence that a good pub is more than just the  variety of beers it serves. I do agree that if Wetherspoons do get established in Brentford it will be to the detriment of the local pubs we currently have there.

While I agree with the dodgy food the range of beers and cider easily matches the Magpie. Has anyone seen the range of beer the Feltham Wetherspoon pub has. Also that pub has a local feel about it.It will kill off a lot of local pubs though.

Weatherspoons are the Tesco of the high st.They are also like having a drink in a sensory deprivation tank,completely devoid of atmosphere and an excuse to sell dodgy food.Watch well established real pubs struggle even more if they take it over.That,and Brentford has enough pubs already..Moving Waterman's into the Magistrates court would be a far better idea.

I suspect a Wetherspoons is a strong possibility. The fact the building is listed will lower its value because of potential maintenance costs. Wetherspoons have a track record of taking over old listed buildings and converting them to pubs.As I think I said a while ago, "THe Old Courthouse" has a certain ring to it.

The building is listed so I imagine it will have a hefty price tag and with the state of the economy and pubs etc. closing down weekly, is that a likely scenario? I still think conversion to out of this world priced luxury homes will be its fate.
