I now check my statements although I do it online, since I had a MINT card which I hadn't used for months so had no balance only to find £75.00 suddenly appearing. When queried they tried to tell me it was for payment protection insurance, which I had signed up for. I knew damn well I hadn't as I never have been taken in by this rubbish because we all know it's such a rip off. After many 'phone calls, with them insisting I had signed up for it and me standing my ground, I asked for a copy of my signature and the form where I had signed. All sorts of excuses followed, and I just remained firm, and said if I had signed for it I would pay but as they said they had my signature on their form they should be able to produce it. Needless to say nothing could be produced, so I sent them an itemised bill for time, aggravation,'phone calls etc. The total of which was £250, they actually scrubbed the original £75 and paid me £100 in compensation! No-one I can assure you was more surprised than me, I was only taking the mickey as they do, but it actually paid off!
