BNP Targeting Brentford ????

Whilst trading yesterday on my Market Stall I noticed a big van with loudspeakers driving through Brentford High street.Upon close examination, it turned out to be a BNP ( British National Party ) campaign truck.Its a sad day indeed to see this fascist / racist party advertise in Brentford.Did we not learn nothing from the second world war where millions of people were exterminated due to there race / colour / believe's.In this economic climate the BNP is a recipe for disaster as more and more people will blame there miss fortunes on those from other ethnic back grounds or race, believe's, and join this outfit of race haltered motivated party.perhaps we still haven't learned from our past history, we can not just blame the German's for having created a monster who destroyed so many a life's.The fact of the matter is it can happen in any country irrelevant of the language spoken, especially when unemployment is rocketing and family's are struggling to make ends meet.After all economic poverty and high unemployment are the main breeding grounds for any fascist motivated party.

It's ironical Marcel that freedom of speech and freedom to campaign for parliament is one of the cornerstones of our democracy and as such the main thing we fought for in WW2.I would never support these people in a million years but they do have a constitutional right to campaign for votes,however misguided their rhetoric.You have the right to confront them in public,after all.It is better these people are out in the open and at least feel they are getting the same right of expression as other parties than they go underground and do God knows what,as do ETA and as did the provos in Northern Ireland.What we did learn from WW2,if mankind ever learns that is,is that these freedoms were hard won and we should think twice before giving them up,even for the odious.In this country in the 30's when poverty was very real and not virtual like now, Oswald Mosley tried to recruit people to his party and got short shrift from the British people.

The BNP's campaign team for the F&H by-election is drafted in from all across London, so my guess is the van was en route to or from there and they just decided to get their money's worth.Either that or, as Jon suggests, they were lost and thought they were still in F&H.They barely have a presence in London these days, so they'll not be mounting a serious campaign in Brentford anytime soon.  I monitor their activities and forum readers will be the first to know if that changes.

I suggest that the BNP vehicle was more involved in the Feltham by-election than being interested in Brentford per se.  But of course they could just have been lost - after all they have no moral compass.Thanks for the alert Marcel: we can all be vigilant.
