Problems with booking at Watermans

Chaos this afternoon as the 2:30 showing of The Artist had been double-booked by some computer glitch. Lots of very unhappy punters queueing for refunds. I've never known this happen before but beware if you've booked lately, or think you have, especially online.

Actually there is not a great deal in War Horse which will induce bawling as regards the animals. Just a couple of OMG episodes however.It's a bit light, and in one or two places just plain corny or embarrassing. For me it barely made 'the OK for a Saturday afternoon out at the flicks' category.Incidentally I think the cheapest Cinema I know is the Coronet in Notting Hill, and fairly often they show quite good films. Useful when Watermans is in its must make some money mode when it shows populist stuff.

Thanks for that George, review better than Barry Norman! I don't really want to see War Horse, as I am a sucker for anything to do with animals. I happened to catch a showing on T.V. of a film a couple of years old - Hachi: A Dog's Tale a few months back, with Richard Gere, and I absolutely bawled through the second half, and so did my 6' something son. I was so taken with it that I bought the DVD and when I lent it to someone with 3 boys he said they all bawled too! It was based on a true story, so I really couldn't bear to sit through War Horse and make a complete prat of myself - which I am sure I would do.

I love Watermans and see films there whenever I can, but can't figure out what's going on when the microphones are visible throughout the film - ? Have never seen this elsewhere. Turned "Julie and Juila" into "The Making of Julie and Julia" which wasn't really what I was expecting. Is it a different print of the film? Something to do with the projectionist's skill?

Visually this was for me a fascinating film to watch because I really appreciate how the old black and whites were crafted. I love the artistry in that style of photography and the devices which a B&W film maker uses to create emotions and effects etc. In this day and age you obviously don't normally get films like this one. It by todays' standards is just so different and I found it a pleasure to watch. Acting was very good taking into account that acting styles were so different 80 years ago. Bar the music most of it is silent as in the old days The love story line is what hangs the film together. Won't say how it ended.This film was for me certainly much better than going to a pleasant Saturday reasonably good film. But I doubt it will be the film of the decade.As for War Horse. Oh dear. But the visuals were good and the horses beautiful.Sorry about the double booking. The only silver lining is that Watermans needs all the custom it can get.

Your method of booking wouldn't have made any difference in this afternoon's fiasco, Keith. With most seats in the auditorium sold twice, it was simply a matter of who got there first and got their bums on them. I'd had my tickets in my wallet for a fortnight; you can't get more 'confirmed' than that!

I always book pver the phone as it's cheaper and I just prefer to speak to someone to confirm my seat.Going to see War House on 6/2.Did you see The Tree of Life.That was in the smae catagoty you suggest Vanessa.A 'must see' that turned out to be pretentious and indulgent nonsense.The Life of a Tree would have been more interesting.

I'd be interested to hear what people think of this picture. It comes across to me - so far - as one of those critic's must sees that usually are the biggest load of rubbish when you go and see them. We're opting for "The Descendants" with the gorgeous George.
