What!now that Fred Truman has been stripped of his Knighthood

Is this going to continue with the Lords who paid good money(CASH) for their honour of being Knighted. Where will it all end?

Fred Trueman? Why?  Has he been haunting someone?

Phil Andrews ● 5390d

I am,once again,in awe and not just a little baffled by your 'humour' Dawn. Taking back a knighthood from one of England's finest fast bowlers (if it's Fred Trueman you mean),especially when he didn't receive that honour in the first place.Priceless.

Keith Iddon ● 5390d

I knew it would get you and of course it was Fred Goodwin!

Dawn Hardy ● 5390d

Fred Truman would not haunt anyone, knew him well.

Dawn Hardy ● 5390d

Since you have asked so nicely Keith, I will explain. My Great Grandad Harper had a Shire Horse with which he towed barges along the canel many many years ago and my uncle Fred Trueman had a long boat(Narrow) which he used to take goods up North. So there you go my Uncle Fred was a good'un and would never haunt anyone!! What do you think?

Dawn Hardy ● 5390d

Did you ever see the Billy Connelly sketch about the drunk who tripped over a kerb and pretended that he had done it on purpose?

Phil Andrews ● 5390d

I did!! and it was very effective and Phil when you consider that you do not come from Brentford don't talk about what you don't know. The Truemans lived behind Mrs Butlers shop, in fact a Ms.Richardson who sometimes comes on the Forum whose family came from there, opposite the church. In fact I have just remembered you can chat with her down the Inverness Club. Would you like a list of OLD Brentonian Families that you could perhaps check up on, if so I can supply them.

Dawn Hardy ● 5390d

I do indeed know a Ms. Richardson from said establishment but to my knowledge she doesn't use this forum.  Happy to chat with her about anything but I do feel we are digressing somewhat, I was just curious to know why a much loved former England cricketer had been posthumously stripped of an honour he had never received, but it would appear you were confusing him with the former boss of the Royal Bank of Scotland.  An easy mistake to make.

Phil Andrews ● 5390d

Phil,You with your knowledge yet again assumed, which you do far too often, just remember that you are only 2 years older than my daughter so your reminisces are somewhat of a shorter period than mine.Perhaps I will also pop into the Inverness and talk over old times with her!!! Tell me when next you are there and I'll accommodate you!!! It will be nice to re-visit old acquaintances.

Dawn Hardy ● 5390d

Absolutely bonkers - nothing more to say really.  However I did know Fred Trueman (cricketer) quite well socially he spent a lot of time in the bar of the Mayfair Hotel in the early 90s.  I'm sure he would be qually baffled by the original posting.Who cares about some possible one time resident of Brentford who may have been called Trueman and what would they have to do with Fred the Shred?  As mentioned above - barking!

Bernadette Paul ● 5390d

Initially it was a joke that I knew would catch Phil's imagination it has obviously escalated, however I will go down to the Inverness, just to see who is still around from the old days.I'm sure Ray and Robbie will allow me entry without being a member.

Dawn Hardy ● 5390d

I'm sure they will Dawn, but don't quote me on that will you?

Phil Andrews ● 5390d

When will you be down there and I do not have to quote you on anything, the invite is always there.

Dawn Hardy ● 5390d

Back to reality and the real Fred Trueman...I remember once when I were a lad  Fred was commentating on't cricket on't wireless and during a rain break the late, great John Arlott said to him words to this effect 'We have a letter here Fred from Mrs Smith in Manchester who asks why all fast bowlers seem to have big backsides''Well'says Fred 'In my case I need a big hammer to knock in a long nail'.

Keith Iddon ● 5390d

Sunday lunchtime after about 3pm.  Ray and/or Robbie will probably be there not long afterwards.I won't be there the following Sunday though, I'll be drinking Sagres in Amanda's Bar instead.  That's if TAP Air Portugal hasn't been taken over by the Bundesbank by then.

Phil Andrews ● 5389d

Mad as a box of frogs - no doubt about it, talk about there's more out than there is in!

Vanessa Smith ● 5389d

They were the days when every Saturday a Cricket match was always played at Turnham Green Church(on the green of course), you could rent one of those old fashioned beach chairs for a three penny joey.

Dawn Hardy ● 5389d

Well I'll look forward to it and hopefully there will be lots of people that I have not seen for many many years. I really do not need either Robbie or Ray there, my sons re-wired the whole of the Inverness I'm quite sure they have membership. As for Ray I have known him since he was in shorts!!! Robbie plays a mean game of NAP!Are you selling tickets if so I want 10%.

Dawn Hardy ● 5389d

Medication required me thinks. It's just disjointed ramblings

Claire Peleschka ● 5389d

Ah yes...the kiss of leather on willow, scoffing cream teas and snoozing on the boundary...the lark singing it's chirpy refrain and the midwife cycling past on her way to the pub to drink a warm beer or two....happy days.

Keith Iddon ● 5389d

The expression 'When you are in a hole you should stop digging' comes to mind.

Keith Iddon ● 5389d

On that Happy Note Keith..THE END!!!!

Dawn Hardy ● 5389d

C'mon folks..I am really enjoying this thread.I'm wondering which other cricketers we can have an irrational pop at.Nasser Hussain for being the tyrannical dictator of Iraq perhaps or Michael Vaughan for ruining 'Give me the Moonlight'or maybe Alistair Cook for discovering Australia?

Keith Iddon ● 5389d

Geoffrey Boycott for being a knob?

Vanessa Smith ● 5389d

Do you HAVE to be "batty" to post on this Forum?

Jim Lawes ● 5389d

I beg your pardon? No it isn't a requirement but I've often felt that it helps.

Vanessa Smith ● 5389d

Only if your name is Dawn

Bernadette Paul ● 5389d

It helps.

Dawn Hardy ● 5388d

Nice one Jim.I'm bowled over by this thread. Right, I'm off - break!

Ian Silver ● 5388d

Ian,You humour has hit me for six. Does it know no boundaries?

Keith Iddon ● 5388d

You've got me stumped there Keith. How's that for openers?Bye.....

Ian Silver ● 5388d

If Dawn has been caught out...why is she still batting!

Jim Lawes ● 5388d

Maybe she is related to WG Grace...'Can't have it,shan't have it, won't have it!'

Keith Iddon ● 5388d

"If Dawn has been caught out...why is she still barking!"Corrected for you Jim. (I get the cricket reference but couldn't resist)

Claire Peleschka ● 5388d

Meeeiowww.....

Ian Silver ● 5387d

Keith Iddon ● 5387d

Dawn Hardy ● 5387d
