In the interests of forming a balanced view we should also be careful not to misinterpret these comments. The study observes that those with lower cognitive abilities gravitate towards right-wing ideologies. It doesn't follow from that that everybody who adheres to a right-wing ideology has a lower cognitive ability. There are, of course, right-wing intellectuals just as there are left-wing intellectuals, and the fact that we may disagree with them should not lead us to deny their existence.Personally I would dispute the conclusions of the study in the sense that the kind of people I suspect it has in mind rarely adhere to a cohesive ideology as such, but rather an unco-ordinated mish-mash of prejudices. It is often the case too that those who hold these prejudices are fiercely loyal, in a voting sense, to parties who absolutely do not share them.It is an interesting subject to which I have often felt the desire to apply myself as a writer, but even those in the political arena who have apparently higher cognitive abilities seem so obsessed with their parties in defiance of all commom sense and logic that it would probably be lost on them anyway.
