Tanya,Most big cities throughout the world have a 'walk on by society'.Generally, big city folk are not are acquanted(sp?) in any way with the victim they feel no responsibility and no overwhelming urge to do the 'decent' thing. It is one of the more unedifying aspects of being crammed together in such large numbers.Humans have not really evolved to live in communities larger than about 100 some anthropologists claim and behaviour like this is one of the outcomes of going against this.In a village you would be unlikely to walk on by.The onlookers are unlikely to see the victim or the perp. again and also do not want to be stabbed, which is a real concern nowadays. They have no investment.I am not condoning this, but we have to understand why this happens. This is also another example of the replacement of police and platform guards with useless cctv.It has not reduced violent and intimidating behaviour like this.On the contrary,it is easy to put a up a hood and get away with it,
