Ed Miliband calls for "pride and patriotism" from UK business - well meaning but naive?

I think Wilson said something similar in the 70's but of course we didn't have the pleasure of being dictated as to what we can do to by Europe then.Just proves that change is not necessarily progress.

I tend towards that view too.  And what's more I am sure that if it have been me and not Gordon Brown who had adopted that for a slogan somebody would have pointed out that it had been widely used by the National Front a generation earlier.

It all depends on what we do with the extra tax you envisage these measures will raise Richard.If we spend it on welfare benefits and not on getting British people back into work then they will have been wasted. We had the biggest tax take we have ever had under New Labour and also the biggest deficit.

Sounds very much like Brown's British Jobs for British Workers speech. Which was utter claptrap.The only thing that will get us out of the spiral of gloom is by attacking the culture at the top of tax avoidance by big companies and at the same time, forcing banks to loan to small businesses and cutting VAT on essential produce for shoppers.Is that too much to ask !

This smacks of the act of a desperate man(not you Phil!)imo.Anything to try to raise his profile and to try to make himself seem important.No-one will take much notice of Milibean,least of all the electorate.
