Well it seems that his children were (mostly) born around the Uxbridge area,a quick 192.com says there are lots of Jordans still in the area (esp. Harefield) so I think I'd make a few calls. We've done this in the past with good success, nobody minded being called once they realize your not selling anything.

I am happy to pop up to the National Archives to see what they have.  The regimental diaries for the Air force were an eye opener when I took a look at some - some have the bare bones and others include photographs menus competitions and display the life of the men, abroad.  Might I find similar records for the army?Any suggestions or advice about what to look up and where to look would be appreciated!
