Why do we pay our Council tax over 10 months?

I have asked this question over on Chiswick W4.com asking for somebody to make sense of it.  Any ideas?  What about water rates over 8 payments??

Lets start with the complicated bit I have a w4 postcode but fall under ealing council but we still pay our water rates weekly in with our rent which until recently I thought was great but if I times that by 52 as it is all year round I noticed how much my water actually is, as we do not recieve water bills as it is included in our rent. So question now being I think no matter how we pay them not only are they trying to make a profit on what they charge but also the interest they make while it is sitting in there bank account.

Frankly I don't want to pay it at all and I would gladly protest about that.  I really wish we were more like the French, they don't stand for any nonsense before they take to the barricades in protest.  Also, why do we have to pay in advance I could die before I have had any of those splendid good value services.  I would much prefer to pay in arrears or at the very least over 12 months!

Good idea Sarah! I've always wondered why they took the payments over 10 months rather than 12.Has anyone at LBH been able to give a reasonable explanation?

Sarah, I for one would rather pay bills,particularly council tax, like this.I get a twice yearly water rate bill and I pay all my utilities bills the old fashioned way ie:after the final demand has been sent.The reason?...well,why help them to get rid of staff so they can give their shareholders a bigger dividend? It also gives the postie something to do.The way you pay should really be one of choice and paying over 12 months should be an option.The only reason I can think that it is not is that it saves the supplier some cost.

The water companies were sold off by the great handbagger - this is not one for the politicians now, all the utilities are privately owned companies thanks to - yes you guessed it, she of the large handbag!

Come on you Political people - I am looking for a reason to cast my vote!My Water rates are £300.12 and the demand is for 8 installments one of £37.55 and 7 of £37.51.  Why can I not pay them over 12 instalments of £25.01?
