Sunday Roast

Can anyone suggest a pub or restaurant in Brentford or surrounding areas that does a good traditional Sunday Roast

I too would really like to know where in Brentford to go for a good Sunday lunch.  When Di was at the Nelson I don't think it could have been beaten.  It is still not too bad but nothing like as good as it was.  Went to O'Brien's a couple of times, which was really excellent, but that particular owner/manager/cook has gone now so don't know what it's like these days.  Heard he was now at the Plough in Tentelow Lane so went there but the food was nothing like as good as it was in O'Brien's so not sure if that information was correct.Tried the Globe once, which was alright but a bit like a glorified school meal (slices of catering meat and tasteless gravy) may be better now that was a year or so ago.  As for the Brewery Tap, if it is under new owners/managers it may be o.k. but definitely not the most comfortable pub I have ever been in, more like stepping back to the 30s or something.Coach & Horses, well it's already been said.  The drink prices are about the highest I have ever come across locally particularly if you have any children to cater for.  Also, the last time I was there my meal was unpleasant enough for the manager to discount the cost of it and there was another couple complaining about something or the other so I am not convinced it is good enough to warrant the reputation.The trouble is, you can have a good/bad meal somewhere one day and the chef changes and experience the reverse next time you go.  Consistency seems to be the problem.If anyone really does have a strong recommendation I would be pleased to know about it.

KeithI try not to squat but must admit to having done it once or twice.I have never lived in a squat but did go to a BBQ at Anne Keen's house. Does that count? :)

Honestly,none of the pubs in Brentford. The last decent, value for money Sunday lunch I had was at the Ealing Park Tavern (which I only went back to through someone else). I wouldn't give my money to the Weir. I enjoy the Coach & Horses but object to paying £2.25 a pop for a lemonade for the kids - and to be honest the food is fairly standard deep fried, bought in frozen pub food. I haven't tried the Magpie but reports are very good, likewise the Brewery Tap but, in all honesty they're like sitting in a squat.I used to really like the Nelson but it's lacking something these days.I like all of these pubs individually but for a nice, quality, value for money, Sunday lunch, I think Brentford pubs are sorely lacking. But then most pubs are these days to be fair. If I had to pick one for food, the C&H would probably be up there but their drink is way overpriced, presumably to pay for the re-furb and that puts me off a bit.

Brewery Tap now under new management I believe so yet to see what the food will be like.  Haven't had a roast at either the Magpie or O'Briens but every meal I have had at either of these has been excellent.

Coach & Horses is a lovely setting, but then again it actually always was, but the food is not great really, especially when you consider that the drinks are a good 30% - 50% more expensive than other pubs in the area.

It's a pity imo that Young's berr is now brewed by Charles Wells since the closure of the Ram brewery.It has spoiled what was a good beer.

The Coach and Horses London Road Isleworth. Good food, good service and lovely atmosphere in this newly revamped public house.Over a million pounds was spent on refurbishing and upgrading. Coupled with this is the new manager that was brought in by Young's to deliver a high quality of food and service at all times.
