Pollution on Grand Union Canal by Boston Manor Park

Whilst out on an adventure with the Bean along the Grand Union Canal this morning, I noticed a light brown substance on the surface of the water just north of the lock by Boston Manor Park. There was also a strong solvent smell. Further south, below the lock, the water had a rainbow sheen to it.Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but I called the Environment Agency and they said someone else had reported a petrol smell in the area. They were sending someone to take a look.

I was walking along the Canal close to Boston Manor Park on Friday afternoon It appeared that there was a fault with the Lock Gates there...and official looking engineers were attending to it...possibly using lubricant to release something jarred.In addition, a canalboat was waiting patiently.I think it was called the Hampshire Hog.
