Pubs in Brentford - Recommendations...

So I have left my happy Shepherds Bush/Acton world of the last 36 years and moved to Brentford. What pubs would you recommend, and why? So far I have had a pint of Pride in the Beehive, basic but nice pics on the wall, and the Griffin, seems to be a good pub and nicely done. Beer fine in both. Where next? Iain

The Royal Horseguardsman on Ealing Road and Albany road. A proper old style pub - a mild irish theme but at least totally authentic as the excellent landlord is Irish. First rate guiness and usually a decent bitter, Super little garden and cheaper than the one or two tried and trusted rival locals.The Fullers pubs are now just way to expensive and have exhausted my lifetime of loyalty to my local brew. Not the landlords doing but the brewers. Too greedy.A real shame in the breweries home patch.

My reply was more to Tim actually Holly and I did try to insert it in the right place but sometimes these forums don't allow that and sometimes they do.I agree that very probably a decent glass of wine can be found in the parish but I am not sure what he means by 'fine wine'.I would try a wine bar if I was interested in that.

Beehive for Pride & great ESB at a good price if that's what you like. Brewery Tap for the free live music but as Ken said ' a tad dear'. Magpie & Crown would be my preference as an 'all rounder'. Very good range of real ales/ciders/perries/bottled/draught beers & a good menu.

The Ealing Park Tavern has always had a good wine list. I believe it's under new management, so I don't know if this is still the case.

I like wine (rather than beer), and am endlessly disappointed by the so-called "fine wines" sold by so many pubs. Youngs pubs do OK-ish. Fullers selection is dreadful; so you really have to hunt around. What's the point of a nice night out where the drink tastes worse than the Tesco stuff you have at home. There's a place for economy sure, but if I'm making the effort to go out, I would like it to be better than if I didn't.You're very welcome in Brentford, Iain, but I fear you may need to go back to Shepherds Bush/Acton for a descent drink, at least one that's grape-based.That said, there are places half way between, in Chiswick, that pass muster. All Bar One, whilst a conveyor-belt-style chain at least sells some very nice wine, and at reasonable prices too.Cheers!

I second what Helen said. The Magpie is particularly fun if you like ale because of all the options. I enjoy the music at the Tap and they do a lovely pint of Chiswick.

I like the Magpie but I have always found it to be a little bit tailored for regulars onlys and so these days I often pop in to O`Briens which really is an excellent pub

The Magpie! Huge and ever changing range of real ale/cider/perry - friendly staff, nice food. Also the Brewery Tap which has music some nights, O'Briens also. I think it's worth trying them all as each has positive elements!
