The Olympic Torch comes through Brentford

The Brentford High Street Steering Group are proud to announce that the Olympic Torch will be travelling through Brentford High Street on it's way to Lampton Park on Tuesday 24 July 2012. The Torch is expected to arrive over Kew Bridge at 11.30am and be at the High Street by 11.38am. Preceding the arrival of the torch, the High Street will be shut to traffic, from 10.30am, and there will be a host of street performers, and live music acts to get everyone ready for the arrival of the torch. There will also be a select few stalls on the High Street.We hope to see as many of you here as possible to support team GB!!

Thanks for sharing the photos! That is not a coach! Its the converted horsebox known as Torchcam, stuffed with electronics, cameras and comms which broadcasts live coverage on the BBC website. I went back and watched the Brentford section an hour or so after being there........

This is where you were hanging out, Jim?  :-)Over an hour to go and roads closed and people are buzzing around working out where to stopWaiting, chatting and relaxing with ages to goThe crowds grew incredibly and we followed a number of office workers from the A4 all being given the time off to pop and see the torch.Everyone is waiting patiently facing the direction of Brentford High Street

I was at the Cathedral in Guildford yesterday and caught the tail end of the procession by complete fluke.  Huge crowds and full carnival atmosphere, amazing.My American friend says they have been watching all their teams trials and selection process for ages and they know all their athletes by name from following them through this process.Come on all you potential strikers, get a grip, it isn’t just us being stopped from being allowed to enjoy the games – we hold the hopes and aspirations of all the other Countries and people involved.  A huge amount has gone into this and it is going ahead, so enjoy!

And if the runours are true, the torch returns to Brentford the day before the Olympics starts with it being rowed up the Thames on the barge Gloriana from Hampton Court to Tower Bridge.

I share your cynicism - I just think the Olympics are one big rip-off to be enjoyed at the British taxpayers expense by the great - and in some cases - not so good. The T.V programme 2012 sums it up precisely. As a collector of commemorative odds and sods I thought I'd get something for the Olympics which arrived today, guess what it's made in China yet it's an 'official' licensed Olympic product . Sorry, but I think all these things should have been made in Gt. Britain - think of the jobs that would have provided - this is nothing short of a national disgrace.

Thank goodness for the torch.It may only be along side us for a couple of minutes (at the most), but we've had the road resurfaced, new flowers and bushes planted in the public areas facing the High Street, and some tidying up of frontages too.If you could get them to divert up Boston Manor Road that would be super, as we could do with a little routine maintenance here too ;)
