There's been massive pressure from the Gov't and Olympic authorities. The critical key work has been prioritised and completed enough to allow the roadway to reopen. The condition is very serious but the teams of engineers have worked tirelessly and done a fantastic job in poor conditions. If this were at any other time it would be weeks. They've done a massive and complex task in days. The rest I'm afraid, is all politics. As the HGV ban remains it may be safe enough for the rest of the works to be done as would be normal. But this is only a stop gap. But with a complete info blackout imposed by the Govt and olympic body, this will not be revealed until after the games.
