Neighbourhood Watch and learn…

When you think about Neighbourhood Watch, you automatically think about potential criminals breaking into your home or damage to local property; improving home security – essentially making your community a safer place to live in. But what do you do when someone you know from a road near where you live, decides to make up pure lies about you and your family? Tells people your husband has come on to her; when this lonely old woman is only hell bent on trying to destroy your own happy family life. When she tells you she “envies” your life, tries to be your friend but then behind your back chooses to spread untruths about your husband…My husband and I barely know this person but yet she thinks its okay to behave in this fashion…  we have lived in Brentford for twelve years, we love this place and are part of this community…So I ask the community… what would you do to if you were in this position?CheersLisa

I have no idea Sarah...the whole situation came from left field...I'm pure shocked by the whole scenario... I will find out what this is all about i think directly as I don't understand what has occurred here or what other peoples motivations are....

In one job I had people used to make up the most outrageous things about colleagues because they were starting a thread of gossip and often the gossip was welcomed.One Manager used to say ‘you are not the first person to tell me that’ - but as they didn't bother to validate the information, they quickly endorsed the gossip to the extent that annual reports were written around it.One incident I remember a person bad mouthed their supervisor and when I said ‘that doesn’t sound like ******’ he shrugged his shoulders and sniggered!Normally they would start with 'can I tell you something in confidence' I quickly worked out to say 'if it involved somebody else then I couldn't promise that confidence' ... they normally didn't bother to come back!If you don't mind me saying Lisa, you also probably also need some grounding to actually find out what is going on, in order to establish what to do.Her friend told you? Why?  What is her involvement?  What does she want to achieve by telling you?  Why is she involving you?

If she is Keith worry is it might allow/reward her to make up other stuff up to add to the gossip/lies she is generating.  Harassment is totally debilitating when you are being put through it and it sounds as if she has been working on the character assassination of Lisa and her husband well before Lisa became aware of it.  ‘Luckily’ somebody has let Lisa in on the secret/gossip.

thanks Vanessa - in the last cupla days I have given her many a slap in my head but chose to keep my dignity... I think I will go down the legal route as sadly I don't think she has the capacity to care about what we would say if we confronted her...

I think I'd be mighty tempted to give her a good slap - however, I think all you can do is confront her and ask her what the hell she thinks she's up to and warn her of possible further action if she doesn't stop. Perhaps getting a solicitor to write to her might work? There's more out than there is in.
