06/09/12 18:41:00 From Fleet Street Fox:You're stupid animals. You're a thick, pathetic, malingering, workshy, lying, cheating, skiving, feckless, fornicating drone. You take without giving, you cost, you're a waste of space and oxygen. You're too gay, too straight, too rich, too poor, too sick. You sit the wrong exams, get the wrong degrees, do the wrong jobs and commit the wrong kind of crimes. There'd be no point in the human race limping on were it not for the 0.001 per cent of the population of these islands which, thankfully, are getting it completely right. They're driven, motivated, ambitious. They go to the right places, know the right people, and are therefore in the best position to tell the other 99.999 per cent of us how to get it right, like them. And if they get things horribly wrong, well, that's just not a problem. So a man who charged the taxpayer for Mandarin lessons the same year he married a Chinese wife, whose job was to oversee the shambolic security preparations for the Olympics, who blamed the Hillsborough disaster on hooliganism, and who had a non-partisan role overseeing the takeover of a broadcaster by a media company with whose owners he was surprisingly chummy, with whose lobbyist he played tennis, and with which the multi-million pound company he still owns shares in did business, who was hauled before an inquiry and called a liar, doesn't get sacked. He gets promoted to a more important job looking after an organisation which saves lives. Never mind that he's as ham-fisted as a clown juggling greased pigs, never mind that he ignores medical and scientific fact to support homeopathy and voted to slash the abortion time limit; no, the best person to be placed in charge of your stupid lives is the man who has nine of his own.By my reckoning Jeremy Hunt's been through eight already, so hopefully he won't be in charge of the NHS for too long.

From today's Mirror by Brian Reade:"Because Jeremy Hunt being promoted to Health Secretary is simply offensive. It feels like we're back in Roman times when naive eight-year-olds were made puppet emperors after their uncle was slain, to carry out the assassins' will with a gormless smile.Hunt's even got the eight-year-old's haircut.Study the facts. Our most precious institution, which could be charged with saving your life tomorrow, is wrestling with the most complex pressures in its history, and the PM wants it to be run by a man who lacks brains, guts or gravitas and is on record as wanting the NHS dismantled. A few weeks back I told of a writer friend who, after several meetings with Hunt, described him thus: 'He is, without doubt, the thickest man in a suit that I've ever had a conversation with. There is nothing going on behind the eyes. It's like trying to get through to a mollusc in a coma'............This is a sports minister who thought the Hillsborough disaster was caused by hooligans. A politician so brave he hid behind a tree outside a hall where James Murdoch was giving a speech for fear the Press might spot him. A secretary of state who admitted misleading the House of Commons over the level of his chummy correspondence with the Murdochs. Someone who has done little of note other than have a mediocre career in management consultancy and PR, smarm his way into a safe Tory seat and support his chum David Cameron when he stood for Tory leader. Hence him rising without a trace of talent. Cameron rates him as a good communicator. He clearly didn't see him failing to defend the G4S shambles on TV with unconvincing soundbites...........But even if Hunt were a decent communicator, why should we care? He's already communicated his thoughts about the NHS in a 2009 book he co-authored which demanded it be ripped apart. He's a dumb, on-message patsy, put in place to smile and take the kicks while the NHS is further privatised. As George Osborne shows as Chancellor, never have we been run by such a shower of dangerous incompetents. What a testament they are to the power of the Oxbridge/public school mafia and the nepotism of our political classes. What a reality check after the world beating heroics of our Olympians to realise how, in this country, the utterly mediocre are elevated to the highest of ranks. And all of us suffer the consequences."
