Poppy Appeal Collectors needed

The Poppy Appeal is fast approaching, and we need volunteers in the Brentford area. This year the appeal runs from Saturday 27th October until Sunday 11th November 2012.  For over 90 years we have helped millions of Armed Forces families, providing financial, social and emotional support. But we couldn’t do this without your help. If you can spare an hour or two of your time to sell poppies please call me. No No No Sarah.Poppy leaf in the 1 o/clock position is the correct way in my book ..and that's the way my fitting service operates at Morrisons!

Poor Sarah, up to her eyeballs organising the Brentford Branch fund-raising. Not only is she standing outside windy railway stations collecting..she then deals with Brentford's shops and offices who have tins and poppy boxes on their counters.Then lovely Sarah is carrying all the heavy filled tins, counting all the lolly and banking it...whilst her 94 year old father.. a real gentleman...is putting in 5 hour shifts at Morrisons!  Where is everyone who should be helping..as Phil says.Here Sarah's Dad is just finishing his shift..and I'm about to take over...to meet and greet Brentford worthies..and there are lots out there too!

"The traditional practice is that poppy emblems are offered and worn only during Remembrancetide which this year is 27th October until 11th November 2012 ...  "Listening to Steve Allen on LBC it appears there is a correct way to wear the poppy, with the leaf turned to 11.00?  I am sure I remember poppy's without a leaf, is the leaf significant?

It is always a source of some amazement to me that not one of the scores of people who will complain to a poppy seller each year that there are "not many of you about" ever seems to consider even for a fleeting moment that they might be able to do something to redress the problem by themselves volunteering to help!It is the same in all walks of activity, unfortunately - people assuming that is the natural role of others to do something to make their lives better, but not their role to participate in any way.  It is a kind of blind spot that so many seem to have, and it is truly frustrating when otherwise intelligent people can be so thoroughly oblivious to it.On the plus side though, as you say, is the generosity that so many demonstrate when they dig deep and contribute to the collection.  A full tin with a liberal sprinking of banknotes and £2 coins does much for the morale.

Yes, of course, Sarah.  And what a champion she is too!Sad that so few have come forward to help on the Collections...but balanced ..for those few..by the fabulous crowd of locals donating and their cheery chat.

Julie's Dad is doing a great job... raising funds for a very worthwhile cause....standing in the draughty Foyer at Morrisons.He's a hero!See you there. there are Poppies, metal badges and wooden Poppy Crosses.

Thank you Sarah for the information about the poppy shop, I have bought some lovely items from it myself.I have a stock of lapel pins with or without 2012 on them which will be available from collectors in the Brentford area.

There are some lovely items for sale on the poppy shop web site. I would like to urge anyone out there who has never volunteered for this worthy cause to do so. I have been volunteering for a few years now in Isleworth and have found it to be a very rewarding experience and as Sarah says, it's only an hour or two out of our lives.
