Another VICTORY for residents against Thames Water
It is old news now that Thames Water was found guilty on 18 counts of negligence and mismanagement in the High Court of Justice for its operation of Mogden between 1999 and 2009. However, people may not know that, despite already spending many £millions in attempting to defend the indefensible, and losing so badly, Thames Water still believed it appropriate to try avoid paying interest on the damages awarded to residents so this aspect had to be appealed. Once again residents have enjoyed a clear victory and Thames Water was forced yet again to pay up. Lead claimants have therefore started to receive their interest payments this week. Whilst this case was always more about justice than about money it is clear evidence that determined communities working together can 'make things happen' when our main political parties dither and then run a mile from issues which are deemed to be too politically sensitive to touch. I believe it is therefore appropriate for our community to express sincere appreciation and gratitude to the ICG for campaigning to get the communities of Hounslow and Richmond to work together and for making this happen where others dared not tread. The tenacity of the ICG leadership in issues which affect entire communities is truly to be applauded.
