"Excuse me, Could you direct me to Chiswick House?

"Well, first of all mate (I replied) you're on the wrong side of the River Thames...this is Kew Green in Surrey"Being in helpful mode I continued "Just go up the road there, go over the King Edward V11 Bridge, and then turn left at the lights by  the Express Pub and you'll see Kew Bridge on the left corner there""Really?" He replied.I continued "Yes honest, Kew bridge is just around the corner and a little way further ...just along the Brentford Road..you'll see Chiswick House!""You're having me on" the enquirer replied getting a little agitated..I was told it's in Staveley Road W4."Oh no no mate.. it's now in Brentford"

Over the last twenty years or so Chiswick has become full of snobs i know as i used to live in Chiswick but i must say Hounslow Council are rubbish.

I ain't no plonker Vanessa.  I'm just a long standing/living resident of Chiswick, London W4.  That's been my address ever since I've lived here until a few weeks ago when suddenly on one of those automatic sites where you enter your postcode and up comes your address did I discover that I no longer lived in Chiswick, London but in Hounslow.  I ask you Hounslow!  Scream, horror - of course, I've not changed my visiting cards, they still say Chiswick, London W4.

My guess, given the number of proposed new developments in Brentford itself, that this will continue. The re-naming will move west from the Chiswick borders into the centre of town. Here's what we'll get to within 3 years: 'North Kew' or 'West-West Chiswick'? Or 'Ealing Riverside'? Or, a new front runner, 'Strand on the Grand'?

Do you know Chiswick is so posh and snobby that once upon a time they changed the name of their busy railway station from...wait for it.. "Brentford Road"  to "Gunnersbury"!

Are you sure they weren't looking for this Chiswick House?  http://chgt.org.uk/You'd have thought English Heritage would have objected to the name of the Kew Bridge flats!

These people make me sick - it is just rampant snobbery, there's some plonker on W4 bemoaning the fact that her W4 postcode comes up as Hounslow - makes you wonder how they live with the shame of it all. Calling this building Chiswick House is ridiculous as Jim points out - can you imagine the confusion? It's just developers/agents trying it on to justify hiking the price and pandering to people's inherent one-up-manship - they really are sad.

Wonder if they've run this past the Royal Mail and the Council yet. They wouldn't be the first developer advertising a name that they're then forced to change. Remember Pumping Station Lane? The developer wanted to call it Regency Mews (not Regency, not a mews, but still ... sounds posh); the Council told them to sling their hook and one purchaser tried to sue them on the grounds that Pumping Station Lane didn't sound sufficiently posh for him.
