Trico-Folberth

There is a reunion of workers and family inc friends of Trico-Folberth at the Inverness Lodge Boston Manor Road Brentford on Monday December 17th from 2000. All are welcome.

I started work in my first job for BOAC (there's a blast from the past)in the building on the opposite corner then called Turriff House and well remember the illuminated windscreen wiper there on the side in this illustration. Our downstairs neighbour worked at Trico for years.

I worked at Trico for two consecutive summers as a student, in 1979 and 1980.  I'd be surprised if anyone remembers me from then though!

I also worked at Trico in the sales office late 1966 -1969 and my friend Pat Suri worked for BOAC int he Turriff building.  Then again I suppose most locals will have worked somewhere or other along the GWR.

At the time of the equal pay strike I was new to London and stayed in a house share in Chiswick with my mate Jim who went on to work as a Trade Union Official. We visited the picket line to offer support. We did the same with the Firemans strike about the same time, they had good braziers! I had forgotten about Trico until the front page story.....

I have a note that Trico's had two factories in Brentford.Must get the books out.Weren't you a former boss there Hugh?And yes..date noted in diary.And another note says that 75% of production was exported!

About two thirds Scottish Hugh but not the Jock you thought...The other third is Welsh and English, my wife was half Irish which makes my sons a real mix of the UK!

So, Trico's had a second factory in Brook Road North... asI  mentioned previously. It was probably in that building on the corner of York Road..where HGA Printing used to be 20 odd years ago.This page come from a 1949 Brentford and Chiswick Industries directory.

Jim I worked at Trico for a few years, the branch next to Macleans. The other branch was in Brook Lane North as you say but it was on the GWR corner across from Duke of York - Brentford Nylon eventually took it over. There used to be a lot of factory workers there, York Road was busy with pedestrians when the shifts changed. The Managing Director of Trico used to live in a big house backing onto the canal from The Butts. Brother in law used to work at the Brook Lane facility.

hi david,my mother used to work at trico,at both brooke lane north and the great west road factory.i used to go to the xmas childrens partys that vwere held in the club house at brooke lane when i was 8-11 years old(50+ years ago) and sometime we were taken to a panto.Trico had a large vehicle that was painted in their colours, ie red and black that was displaying all the products they made and was driven by a pair of identical twins all over europe.
