Moving to Brentford from Tennessee (USA)

Hello, i'm 17 and i'm moving to brentford from Tennessee because my father got a job in the area. I was told to come on here and ask about it as you'd be most helpful/informative.And I have a few questions like, What is there to do in the area? Are there alot of Americans in the area? What is the local high school like, and what are the other teenagers in Brentford like, and get up to?Thanks in advance :D

Maybe you're going to move into the new apartments at Kew Bridge,Brentford overlooking the River Thames.In which case you will be located at the gateway to everything and everywhere.

You can drink soft drinks in a pub from the age of 14 if you are accompanied by an adult and it's not after 9pm. All at the discretion of the landlord/lady.Public houses aren't about getting drunk.My local isn't anyway.

Just for info, Keith is probably not much younger than myself... Mention of pubs for socialising might confuse you (and your dad) Legal age is 18 but many 15 plus manage to get served, some places insist on proper ID, my 25 year old son still carries his passport for clubs.... Pubs are for socialising, you do not have to get pissed, obviously some do!Great name by the way, presume its a (sensible) nom de plume......

I know only one American who lived in Brentford some time ago and,thankfully as it happens,he has left.His name is Tex for two reasons:1) He is froim Texas.2) He is a cowboy builder.We did have,many years ago,a native American who lived here for 18months,one Pocahontas who lived on the site where the post office sorting office now stands.As for life in Brentford,it is quietish and uncomplicated and it's a friendly place but not much happens really to be truthful.Many of us love living here for various reasons.It is easy to get to central London and Heathrow and it has a football team.It has fairly good transport links and mostly the people are 'your own' as a Londoner might say.I hope you will be happy in England and Brentford.Pop in the Magpie and Crown for real English beer and cider when you come.

Welcome to the forum, Brentford is only 30 minutes or so from central London so there is loads of interesting stuff you can do. Locally there is the River Thames (ever done any Rowing??), lots of interesting pubs and history and good shopping centres/night life/sport within easy reach (Richmond, Kingston, Ealing etc etc) As an international student I would think Richmond College might suit you better than one of the secondary schools in the area. It does the International Baccalaureate which might suit an American background better than AS/A levels.I don't know any Americans locally but given the number of international firms based along the 'Golden Mile' there must be quite an expat community. Good luck with the move and I hope you and your family enjoy your stay in London. PS, I am probably an awful lot older than your dad so you better find someone nearer your own age for a real answer to your questions.......!

Good luck with this young lady. My kids moved from London to Devon recently at 17 and 15 and managed to fit in fine although they do miss their old life.
