Mail posted in Brentford, indeed throughout TW and KT postcodes (and W4), gets taken rapidly to the Jubilee Mail Centre on the Hounslow/Whitton border. There, mail is handled and address sorted automaticallyand I don't suppose it stays still long enough to be tampered with..especially with the Security in place. Then envelopes and packages are  bagged up (or trayed up), placed in "York" skips, and rolled onto Royal Mail vans and delivered to RM Delivery Offices. It is at these local Delivery Depots that mail hangs around, is being sorted again and placed in pigeon holes for each street and residence. This work would be undertaken 5am - 7am in the early morning..perhaps without overseers.  Whilst 99%of staff do an honest job..there are often scalleywags lurking.Back in the 1970's I worked for an Ealing Company mailing out millions of items every year. I recall we despatched over 200,000 Spillers' Fred the Flour Graders.  At Twickenham Royal Mail years later a postal chap said to me "Yes we all got one of those Flour Graders" as though it was a perk of his job at Paddington!!No wonder we had so many complaints about non-delivery!!The poster hasn't mentioned the Post Code area to which his mail was sent ..nor the likely Delivery Office. You will perhaps all recall the expose on Channel 4 of the farcical situation at Paddington Royal Mail Office where staff were filmed blatantly opening mail and removing doshbefore resealing invisibly....under the nose of "blind" Supervisors and Union Officials.Anyway bad luck..and yes do report it.
