Hounslow Council may introduce 20mph zones to improve safety

"may we have a 30mph restriction along the A4 through Hounslow (Lampton School), Heston, Osterley (Isleworth & Syon) and Brentford (Lionel Road & Gunnersbury school)?"Sadly that's not Hounslow's road, it's TfL's - a similar situation arises with the A316 between Chiswick School and Cavendish Primary round our way.  I don't think slowing down traffic is high on their agenda (or listening to people, for that matter).

30mph on the A4 would increase ambient pollution vastly and create noise and congestion and will make no difference to road safety. It's a main road and has a cycle lane both sides of it.It's side streets and single lane roads where this will make a difference.  Where people get in and out of cars, cyclists share with other traffic and people cross anywhere.Most of the A4 accidents have been from misuse by all road users.Any speed limit is not going to change disregard.The A4 could be made a lot safer by making the cycle ways more useable and better signalling. Sweeping them regularly would be a good start. Enforcing the law on those who run the lights another.
