Red light at night

I see that after several weeks and one near catastrophe, a clearly visible red light has been fitted to the crane and that ghastly tower and that now blights Brentford and just about visible from all of west london.Probably like Ferry Quays, the red light will not be just to alert passing helicopters!

Oh, and as to red lights..... the main downside here is that it's deadly dull with no external life of any sort (even restaurants mostly don't survive) rather than too much 'action'

I live in Ferry Quays (in a rented flat) and find the standards excellent. There's a persistent problem of damp in the corridor walls but this does not seem to affect the flats' interior. Service charges not my problem :) though the rents are high, like everywhere.In my previous 1860's house in Chiswick we always knew what the neighbours were watching on TV. Here I am never disturbed so the idea of paper thin walls doesn't have any credence.

I notice that estate agents never say in their particulars what the service charges for a flat are. As Jennifer says, this is vital information.

Not doubting Raymonds account but interesting to note that new developments in the Victorian and Edwardian times have also been linked to being homes for the 'mistress' of the well to do. Mansion Flats in Chelsea, Earls Court and West Kensington come to mind. I suspect there is a bit of an 'Urban Myth' in this story. Reality is a lot of buy to lets with a high turnover and sale prices which are quite reasonable compared with other riverside/canalside locations in West London. I like Ferry Quays and might have bought there but I know about high costs hence high service charges.....no matter how good the management.

Do any of these development publish details of their service/management/parking charges?  Before I went to look at buying there, that's one of the first things I'd need to know.

We found it to be 'window dressing' a high luxury superficial spec but in actuality a rather poor build little better than 'low cost apartments' if there is such a thing.Huge service charges, even to park a car.

Depends on what building regulations say, and you can bet your boots to maximise profit the spec. will be the lowest a developer can get away with.

Were the walls really that thin? Surely in these days of ever louder gadgets and lack of consideration for others, the first thing you do in new housing is address sound-proofing.

When we were looking to rent we looked around these flats as the location was nice. Paper thin walls. We could hear what sounded like a Max Moseley session going on.Embarrassed agent suggested it was popular with 'TV and City executives as a london base!Ooooh Errr Missus!!But we declined, way too expensive.

Several of our firms executives have shag pads there.I can't say much more but gone for lunch has a slightly different meaning in our department!!Take a walk around at night and all will become rather evident!

Do you know something about Ferry Quays that the rest of us don't Anthony! ;-)It is an awful building,that giant new 'Pringle Tube' as I call it.Some like it,but each to their own.It's a pity it's so imposing and huge though.
