Kew Village Market - Sunday 3rd Feb
Welcome back to Kew Village Market this Sunday – the first of 2013!And how about making a New Year’s Resolution to skip the supermarket on market weekends and do all your food shopping here? Look up http://www.kewvillagemarket.org/stalls-this-month/ for a complete list of this month’s traders (26 food stalls and 5 craft stalls), though here are a few ideas to start your shopping list…As well as bagging the very best bacon and bangers from Noggin Farm, why not stop by at Winterbourne Game to pick up pheasant or partridge, which will soon be out of season? If you’re not sure how best to cook them, Chris or Kate will be happy to help. The Portland Scallop Co has quickly become a Kew favourite: as well as his usual wet fish and shellfish (scallops to die for!) Jamie Wright is hoping to have turbot or brill this month. Add vegetables and fruit (especially English apples and pears) from Beech Hill Farm and artisan bread from Ruben’s Bakehouse and that’s your food shopping – job done! But then there’s cheese and special olive oil, all manner of yummy sweets and deli treats and terrific takeaways – better make that two shopping baskets…We’d also like to welcome some new-to-Kew stalls this month: try Nochia’s fabulous flavoursome African stews, the melt-in-the-mouth makings of Madame Macaroon and the moreish cookies from Fidelma’s Kitchen. On the craft side, Atelier Chokerbali offers unique pieces from a French jeweller who’s recently moved here from France; and Larkspur of Kew has the prettiest little girls’ ‘Sunday best’ dresses, all lovingly hand made.Talking of handmade, don’t forget to stop at the Kew Village Market Stall for the preserve of the month – your choice of Seville Orange or Lemon Marmalade to brighten breakfast till the next market! As always the Market takes place in front of Kew Gardens station between 10am and 2pm, the first Sunday of the month.
