Thinking of buying a Kindle

I purchased my first Kindle in October 2010. I successfully mastered how to send my word docs to it, and have ever since been busy downloading various documents/stories etc. from the internet to my PC where I copy and paste into Word,  I then top and tale the document, change the font and size that I like and then send them to my Kindle using its email address. This has been highly successful. I should also tell you that there are many sites on the Internet where you can find free books, usually those out of copyright. That being said there is a site called “Calibre” which has a library  available of many thousands of books, even some well know authors such as Cussler,  Vince Flynn, Daniel Slva, Lee Child, David Baldicci, Nora Roberts and Stuart Woods to name but a few. For more just Google “Free ebooks” Now this sounded all wonderful, and I use my Kindle on my extensive cruises. After the first year of my first Kindle in October 2011, I found that it closed down and had to be rebooted. I rang the 800 number and was sent a replacement machine, as it was just within the 12 month warranty. The second kindle lasted until January 2013, 15 months. So when I called again to complain, I was told I could have a replacement kindle at a reduced price if I was to return the faulty one. This I did and I now have a Kindle Touch, for which I was charged just over $50.I cannot speak to highly of their after sales service and the helpful operators who will assist you if you have any queries.I also discovered that I might have been the cause of the breakdowns of the unit, in that I used to be very lazy and when I had finished a session of reading, I just used to close it and touch the slide switch when I wanted to re-use t. A friend who is somewhat of a computer guru suggested  that if I had bothered to totally shut the machine down after each use I would probably have got a lot longer battery life out of the machine, so this what I am now doing. That being said I have my own suspicions that it might be caused by having it Xayed, every time you board a flight or Ship, as the shut downs usually started to occur after several Xrays. This was not supported by the people at Kindle Help Line. That being said if after a year it fails again, I would definitely buy another one, this has been the greatest innovation for me in being able to read and take hundreds of books with me on the bus, tube , train, flying and cruising.
