Murad suggests "Julius Caesar Pier" at Brentford

http://blog.muradqureshi.com/julius-caesar-pier-brentford/"At last night’s London Waterways Commission (LWC), we had a presentation from Transport for London on their recently launched River Action Plan, to double passenger numbers along the Thames by 2020.....Given the emphasis on Piers as destinations in the action plan, it occurs to me that one place that has been neglected is Brentford in the West."

It's a great idea is it not? Leave a comment on Murad's blog and urge him to push this ahead.

A foot/cycle Bridge to Kew Gardens was mentioned quite a while back ( by Mike Brandt among others I recall )I always thought that would be fantastic for Brentford as it really would bring footfall into the area and thus trade. With 5 buses and a Station all nearby it would make Kew Gardens more easily accessible for visiting avoiding main roads.A pier would be nice too, but it's 46 years since the river was regularly dredge and it is so muddy and silted up on the Brentford curve that it would only be navigable during higher tides so would make it pretty useless much of the time.It could take 4- 6 years to dredge the navigable channels back out and would cost a fortune.Shame it got neglected for so long.

Agree about the bridge! Pleasure boats navigate from Westminster Pier down to Hampton Court, through the lock at Richmond. Or do they time their trips for only when the tide is right for Hammersmith to the lock?
