Female Leaders

I wonder whether females in a position of power do better than men in the same position?Females do seem to come out on top (when allowed) whether one is discussing Elizabeth I or II or Thatcher or Boadicea or even Victoria - queen not Beckham's wife.Or is that only this country that produces such strong women?

It's certainly true that Thatcher was a 'man's woman' who seemed to have little time for her own sex.

I think Thatcher completely ruined it for other women. She did nothing for women - she was only interested in her own rise and power, she also, in my view, thought she had to out macho the 'men' such as they were and in doing that lost her compassion, sensitivety and humility. Just walking around waving the lead in your pencil because you're surrounded by wimps isn't big and isn't clever, sooner or later even worms turn - and didn't they just once they thought they were all going to be out of a job. Stating the bleedin' obvious - women are entirely different and should know there's more than one way of skinning a cat.

Golda Meir, Indira Gandhi, Eva Peron, Rosa Luxembourg, Aung San Suu Kyi, Imelda Marcos, Benazir Bhutto - not all of them actually leaders of their countries and not all of them necessarily amongst the good guys, but I would argue that every one of them was strong in their own individual way.In a male-dominated society it could be said that a woman needs that little bit extra just to be able to compete on a level playing field.  Sad, but probably true.
