Waiting restrictions threat to local shops

There is now a petition in both the Kebab shop and Fish and Chip shop in Albany road.This is because after a week of trying, no-one at Hounslow has responded to several enquiries.Namely what kind of no wating and will they use instant fines for anyone who stops.No-one from LBH has taken any trouble to consult the local trades and there is not a problem as the dropped kerbs and signs are observed.Vehicles parked for a few minutes do not cause any sort of problem even for garage users.The two food outlets stand to lose a very significant amount of passing trade which will lead to price hikes or render the businesses unviable.We are suggesting a 10 min waiting time at the very least.The petitions have to be collected and submitted by wednesday latest.It you care about this community which seems like it is under siege right now. Please pop in to either, read the petition objections and if you agree please sign it.It's not in my street but this is something that indirectly does affect out neighbourhood.Tony.

We're lucky it's just the one bookies. They are opening all over the place where there are a lot of people less fortunate and on low incomes or benefits.Now if the government allowed a random payout on taxes and benefits, would that attract those who spend all day in the bookies?They may as well as the money they lose in there may as well be paid in extra tax or lower benefits.Like Sky TV indirectly paid for by the taxpayer via the huge customer base who are officially below the poverty line.

I think the petitions have probably been collected as they were originally going to be submitted for the 19th April deadline.I know a lot more signatures were collected after the 19th but not sure what's being done with those.But the deadline has apparently been extended.  There might be a sheet or two left in the Kebab shopThe best bet is to make a personal objection as it will count.details belowShort statement of objections toTraffic@hounslow.gov.ukQuote ref TMO/P009/13

There's a bit more to this.So far I've not had a reply to find out why they want to do this, who is behind it and why no-one in authority has bothered to talk to the local business owners.But a neighbour who has looked into this and consequently helped organise the petition has gleaned some stuff.It seems a few garage users have had a hard time with their access being  blocked for more than a few minutes. Turns out these are people using the bookies in Ealing Road.  When tracked down and asked to move their vehicles, these people have been nasty and abusive towards the resident garage users.Because of these few selfish and antisocial types, the council have been asked to act which to me seems quite understandable.Trouble is they want to instigate a 24hr 7 day ban of zero tolerance which will apply to anyone stopping - even garage users who may get a ticket whilst opening or closing their doors!It will probably ruin the Chippy and Kebbab shops who have to compete with McDonalds who have free parking for 2 hours.The shops keep an eye out and are good neighbours for the garage owners and advise customers to move if they see a blockage. Not so easy for the bookies or the pub as they are out of view of the space.The petition agrees with both sides of the problem and suggests a short waiting limit as a compromise.I understand that the local councillors have for once reacted and let's hop that they can get this sorted without consequence.Either way well done to all those who took the trouble to go and sign the petition.

Thanks to everyone who signed the petition about this. Some 50 signatures in 3 days and submitted just in time for the deadline which has since, I understand been extended.Since then the signatures now stand at just under 100.Well done to the chap who set this up and helped the two shops, let's hope they come up with a less harsh solution.If the regeneration department at LBH manage to kill yet more businesses off then that will look great on their remit. More  like department of Degeneration!

I am still waiting for a reply as to whether these are to be a zero tolerance waiting zone. If it is it really will kill off the two food shops.I can't see how parking for a very short time as does happen can cause any problems to anyone.One thing I have noticed is that HGVs use this open area to do 3 point turns when they realise that the next bit of Alban road is too narrow for them.Now that is dangerous.  No initiative to stop that I note!!

Me too. Any parking restrictions must be reasonable. Clients of those businesses must be allowed some time to park near by.

Thanks, I shall go and sign it as I can see that destroying all thier passing trade in such a quiet area.Even though I'm not a regular at either, I do believe we have to support our local small traders.
