Missing Bono!

Hi, since my message of last week saying that our black cat was missing, there has still been no sign of him.  I have spent every spare moment scouring the streets of Brentford, crawling on my hands and knees through the shrubbery, shouting his name through locked garage doors, etc, and am completely exhausted!  If anyone knows of his whereabouts, please, please can you let me know.  He is a large, friendly black cat, called Bono (husband's a U2 fan!) - but confusingly the pink heart-shaped tag that he was wearing when last seen will either have the name Bono on it or Robbi (he may have been wearing his brother Robbie's name tag for reasons to boring to go into!).  He also had a round gold tag saying he'd been ID chipped.  His collar is light-blue.  The council and the waterways offices say they haven't located a cat of his description.  He was last seen 7pm in Tallow Road near the Weir on Tuesday 7 May.  Generous reward on offer for anyone who can provide any information leading to his safe return.  Thank you - and to all the many lovely people of Brentford who've helped in my search so far, I greatly appreciate all your kindness.

Hi ClaireThank you so much for your email.  Unfortunately I desperately wish it were him, but my beloved Bono's body was found in the canal on 23rd May.  I'm devastated.  Please take care of the little kitty who is visiting you, he may have an owner who is missing him as desperately as I was Bono.  You may wish to post the cat's details on the National Pet Register (nationalpetregister.org) and Animal Search (animalsearchuk.co.uk) website and email them to the Hounslow Animal Welfare society (email address: cats@haws-animals.org.uk).  For anyone else reading this, I am still desperate for any answers as to how, when, where and why Bono ended up in the canal.  He went missing from Tallow Road on 7th May - we imagine something happened to him that evening as he never strayed more than 10 minutes away and always came in when called, although it is possible that for some reason he was somewhere else for a couple of weeks and only died around 23rd May.  If anyone saw any incidents involving a large, black cat near the canal on 7th May, or sometime up to 23rd, we would really appreciate any details as it is difficult coming to terms with his death and it would help us to understand the circumstances better.  Thank you.

HiI have a black cat that keeps appearing in my garden and at times comes into my kitchen and also my neighbors.  He has been doing this on and off for the last approx 2 weeks.  He is quite thin and a bit scruffy.  I believe he may be an old cat but I'm not sure if that is just his/her scruffy appearance.  I live in Mafeking Avenue and the Cat is all black and does not have a collar on.Please let me know if this sounds like your cat Bono.Best Wishes Claire

We are so sorry to hear the sad news of Bono. As pet owners (Dylan the dog) we perfectly understand how heart breaking it is to lose yours. They become like a child to you.

Thank you for your interest.  His body was found in the canal on 23 May having gone missing on 7 May.  His loss is made worse by not knowing how, why, where or when he ended up in the canal.  I shall never know, I shall always wonder and will always miss him, he was my boy.

Hi LizI don't know if it's Bono, but I saw a black cat I've never seen before in our communal garden at Bordeston Court in The Ham on Tuesday evening at dusk. The garden is enclosed within the building and has locked gates either end so you won't be able to get in but there is a fence that goes over to Augustus Close near to the disused Church so I would definitely have a look around that area. The cat isn't in our garden anymore, he or she was sat on a gate to one of the neighbours patios and was watching me as I was closing the blinds as it got dark. He/She looked healthy and quite large and I've definitely not seen it around before.  It appeared to head off down the passage and under the locked gate towards the car park. I didn't think anything of it at the time but happened across your forum message by accident.There's a lot of places for cats to hide and explore around the disused church so might be worth a look.I hope you find Bono, I've been in your situation and its a nightmare not knowing.

Hi, it is now nearly two weeks since Bono went missing.  We are completely exhausted from looking for him every spare moment and have spent all our rainy day savings and then some in the search for him - including hiring a search boat to check the river.  If anyone is looking after or has befriended Bono, we aren't angry, please just let us know he is safe so we can put our minds at rest, or equally if you know he has had an accident, we would rather know.  He was due to go to the vet just after he went missing and we're also concerned he gets the treatment he needs.  You can call Animal Search UK in confidence, tel. 08004320340 quote ref 149486, email info@animalsearchuk.co.uk  I know people may think he's just a cat, but to us he's a member of the family and we can't rest until we know what's happened to him. I keep seeing a long haired black cat around the Ham, next time I see it I will try to get close to take a look at its collar and will let you know.  Its going in the gardens of shire place and is probably sun bathing on the boats in the canal at the back of the garden.  You can go down the tow path and have a look there.  Good luck, I hope you find him

Alas we have seen the cat you spotted and it isn't Bono but thank you again for letting me know about him.  We have had some possible sightings behind the tyre shop in Brentford high street, so if you spot a large black cat in that vicinity do let me know.  Thanks so much again!  Liz

I met a very portly black cat on Brentford Dock on Saturday I think. He was sitting outside someone's door on the first floor walkway of Galba Court. It may be worth calling the office or security to see if someone has reported him.The number is 020 8568 5096.I'm back tomorrow afternoon and will have a look around.Steve

I hope you find Bono soon; our window cleaner Reg mentioned that one of his other clients had discovered a black cat (in good health) in their recycling box late last week (Lateward Road area) he was going to pop back and ask the property owner to check this site as I mentioned your original posting.

Fingers crossed for Bono's return a.s.a.p. I do feel for you as it's so worrying when moggies don't come home. He'll probably just wander in as if nothing's happened very shortly.
