Hounslow Highways

Has anyone noticed how filthy the local streets are recently in Brentford. Hounslow HIghways seem to be very good at keeping the main roads and high street clean but the residential roads are truly shocking!

It really is a real mess all over the Borough isnt it and I think its quite simply due to the fact that when the contract with Hounslow Highways was drawn up many areas that should gave been included were left outWe now have the situation where some roads are cleaned and grass cut etc but others deemed to be Hounslow Homes responsibility are not for example and unfortunately neither will give in because of the extra costings

Seems to be a pretty reasonable argument against 'outsourcing', residents get caught between the various contractors, so much easier, cheaper and efficient to keep services 'in-house'.

The standard of street cleaning is clearly not of an acceptable standard. The move to fortnightly cleaning was introduced very quietly and does not make any sense considering the performance metrics. The contracts for refuse collection and street cleaning are run by separate companies which often means that the street cleaners are reluctant to clear up the mess they believe was left by the refuse collectors. (their words not mine)I agree that the roads are in a mess for a variety of reasons but trying to engage Hounslow council in preventative measures is impossible. The only thing that seems to work are constant complaints (the website, twitter, official complaints, etc). However, once it's cleared up the fly-tipping appears in the same location in the following week.

I completely agree with you some people think nothing these days about buying fast food etc and chucking the waste on the pavement or out if their car window but when you go from a once weekly street cleaning service to a said fortnightly service and now we are lucky to see a once monthly service this is very wrong and misleading by Hounslow Highways,

It's not all the fault of contractors, People are pretty filthy too with no care or concern for their surroundings, no sense of civic pride or duty.A bit more enforcement over spitting, littering and fly tipping in others gardens would be a good thing.
