Behind the Scenes tours at Gunnersbury Park Museum, a few places available 6th July at 11am

Thanks for posting the video.I went along to one of the geophysical techniques chats/demonstrations on Thursday. The team are at the Park for a fortnight hoping to uncover more details of the features under the lawn at the back of the house and possibly also a mysterious tower shown on maps in the south west of the park and the second world war gun emplacements on the playing fields. It was fun pushing the ground radar device over the lawn and suddenly seeing the yellow echoes from the buried treasures underneath. On Thursday the ground was too dry to get useful information from the resistivity kit - but with a bit of luck the rain we have had since may allow them ro reveal more secrets. And we all had too much metal on us for them to demonstrate the magnetometry without being swamped by loud whines.The temporary exhibition in the Museum of the ?1870's art works of Brentford and Isleworth pubs bought by Andrew Pears in the 1890s was fascinating. Only two are still in use as pubs in the form depicted - but several of the others have had new buildings erected on the sites. Worth a visit !

where a mangle was on show. Who remembers their parents or grandparents using one of those to squeeze the water out of washed clothing and sheets.?  I do!Irons galore. If you don't remember them you must be young and don't realise how lucky you are!Gunnersbury Park House and "below stairs" is full of surprises.

Well big thanks to Julia for guiding our Party of a dozen or so locals around Gunnersbury Park House including some off -limit areas. last SaturdayIt really was interesting and above expectations. Julia was the star of the show.To think that these grounds ..all located within the Brentford boundary..were out of bounds to locals up till 1926 unless you were lucky to have a job there!The view from the Terrace is quite stunning and extensive.
