Heston lady dies aged 115 years 199 days..UK's eldest
I was looking at the view from a Heston Tower block last week..and spotted a magnificent white carriage drawn by two horses easing into a road below. Some 30 Indian people, adult men and women, smartly dressed in white, began to assemble outside a particular house and I still hadn't twigged what was really going on. The event evolved over some 45 minutes.A draped coffin was carried from the house and gently placed in the carriage. A picture of a lady could be seen being placed in position. The horses and carriage then gently moved away and turned right at the T junction towards Southall. What a happening I thought. But it wasn't till several days later ..when I was looking at the Hounslow Chronicle website ....that I realised I had been witnessing the funeral procession of the oldest lady in the UK (and apparently the second oldest in the World)! Her name was Sant Kaur Bajwa and may she rest in peace after such a long life. You may or may not wish to view the very large picture I took which is reproduced in the next message. It was certainly a historic event..and hundreds of mourners were waiting at the Southall Temple for the funeral service.
