It's not only Hounslow you know....

Richmond Council have, in their wisdom, decided to remove the trees that line Whitton High St. I am no tree expert but most of them look O.K. to me - and I'd just get some work done to them as some of them have run away a bit. What is questionable is the fact that a lot of money has been spent doing the pavements - in fact work is still going on, question? How can these large trees be removed and replaced without some damage to the new pavement areas? Are these people quite mad? Forward planning does not seem to be within their remit.

That is exactly the problem with contracts being drawn up - you need to consider other eventualities - something that seems way beyond the numpties who are responsible. I still can't see that removing perfectly good trees - to me anyway - solves anything.

apparently , It's to do with the paving and lighting contracts which have not factored in tree and root maintenance. The solution?  Remove the trees.Yet another example of why these contracts should not be shrouded in secrecy.I hope the idiots behind this do the honourable thing and resign.

These existing trees apparently are 'too big' seems to me that some much needed work to trim them would be in order not digging them - and the new pavement up - to replace them with other trees they'll probably neglect to look after too.

I've noticed a lot of apparently healthy trees being removed in other West London boroughs. Surely it's not for 'elf an' safety reasons. Surely we need more trees as the population grows.
