New ASB leaflet claim does not stand up
A new leaflet on anti-social behaviour entitled "Standing Up" and issued jointly by a number of agencies including the Metropolitan Police and the London Borough of Hounslow includes the following claim attributed to Councillor Ed Mayne, Cabinet Member for Community Safety:"We made a pledge to residents to take action on crime, with more uniformed officers on the streets and we are delivering on this."Er, no. The pledge was that Ed and his colleagues would put "100 new uniformed officers onto the streets in this area (undefined)". And I still have a copy of the leaflet to prove it.That pledge patently has not been delivered upon because the local authority has not placed anywhere near 100 new uniformed officers onto the streets anywhere in the borough, and what's more those who made the pledge back in 2010 knew full well at the time that it was completely unachievable. One expects politicians to tell porkies but why are the Metropolitan Police, and other agencies such as Hounslow Homes and John Laing, associating themselves with this wilful deception?
