Save St Lawrence's vicarage from demolition
The new plans from the High Street developers Ballymore include demolition of St Lawrence's vicarage. The vicarage was built in 1889 (on the site of the original vicarage which was built in 1646) and is part of a conservation area. It is one of the few 19th century buildings left standing on Brentford High Street. Demolition would be yet another act of vandalism to an historic High Street that (having survived Nazi bombs) was savaged by 1960s and 70s developers. The plans also propose to convert St Lawrence's church into a health club. I hope the Council consider how best to ensure the full preservation of the 15th century church tower (Brentford's oldest building, which was built in 1480) in an appropriate setting and ensure that the interior of the whole church (built in 1762) as well as exterior is conserved and can be publicly viewed. You can object to these plans by emailing the council planning officer by 6 September: sunny.desai@hounslow.gov.uk
