I must give credit where credit is due

Some irresponsible person or persons dumped a disgusting double mattress, a bed base and some cabinets on the pavement next to the canal last Wednesday night. I completed an on-lone Fly-tipping notification on Hounslow Councils website at 12.05 on Saturday afternoon. I hardly pressed the 'submit'  tab when I received a phone  call from a very pleasant man from the Council (12.22 exactly) who asked me to explain exactly where the rubbish had been dumped.  At about 2 pm  I took a walk and it had been cleared.  I certainly had not expected it to be cleared until after the weekend.  Well done Hounslow and all concerned. What a great service!

We spent part of last weekend helping our offspring moving home.  They are a group of young people sharing.  The space has changed and so slightly has the group .  Despite having made trips to charity shops there was still some stuff that they will need to re-house.  As you can imagine they get a hard time from me.  I object to something that I have handed down just being binned because that is easier. (They all went off to uni with cutlery and crockery but there isn't room for it all.)Tenants' stuff recycled/binned is classed as Household Waste - the collection of which is paid for in Council Taxes. (Disposal of Bulky Waste is free when delivered to the Reuse & Recycling Centre).Tenants' stuff LEFT BEHIND becomes classed as BUSINESS WASTE the collection of and delivery to the Reuse & Recycling Centre is charged for - if allowed.  Sadly sometimes people pay to have stuff taken away without checking whether the carrier is licensed to carry waste and these cowboys just dump it around the corner.  If they are caught and/or the stuff is traced back to the originator both unlicensed carrier and originator are liable to be heavily fined. It would obviously be useful to give more help to those moving.

Hounslow Furniture Project will collect but they will not necessarily want what you have so you need to check.  They are also not the only furniture reuse place that there is. I have to say my experience of this service are also good, I am sick and tired of reporting fly tipped furniture, beds mattresses etc. from outside the Furniture Project in Northcote Avenue, some dimwit must think the project are responsible for their cr*p! But report it and it's gone generally within a couple of days.
