LCD TV Repair Shop? Or New TV...

My 7-year old Samsung LCD television has a lovely green stripe down the side of the screen and lots of green pixellated streaks.I can't find anything on Google to work out what's causing this and whether it's worth my time taking it to be repaired, or if I should just consign it to the recycling centre and buy a new one.Anyone know? If it's salvagable, does anyone know of a good local repair shop?

Very elderly with no computer and no knowledge of how easy it is to sort many of these little things if you can go online. Also so very determined to remain independent.  Much easier for them to buy another than find a new light bulb and someone to fix it.  I just wish they would have asked.  They didn't.  They wouldn't.  I found out too late.Also many 'tips' are billed as Reuse & Recycling Centres when there is very little reuse.  It is easier and cheaper for them to be dismantled for valuable metals than checked over to see if they are working.  So if it works - either get the spare part and get it repaired - or give it away or freecycle it.  BTW some charity shops DO take electrical goods now.

There is a part of ebay that is for requested bits and pieces isn't there?I have found a spares site on the internet really good for things like a new kettle filter, bags and belts for a vacuum cleaner and another cutlery rack for a dishwasher. Also light-bulbs that you can't find anywhere else (eg for fridge). I know that my in-laws took a working microwave to the tip because the light wasn't working and I also know that an awful lot of vacuum cleaners have ended up there when they haven't ever had the filter cleaned because people just seem to think that they can plug and go and not do any maintenance at all.  Recycling is an end of life process.  Reuse and Repair comes first!  Instruction booklets for appliances can also be found online as can videos showing you how to mend or troubleshoot problems.I wish I'd known about the broken/cracked salad drawers in a fridge I saw recently because I bet we could have found those online.

well worth selling for spares as there will be someone out there who needs a different component to your failed component and spare parts from the manufacturers are often more expensive than an entire tv.So much of modern devices are simply plug in components and easy to fix with a little dexterity, It's just a case of replacing a component Whats not so easy is to repair a failed component.

You could probably E-Bay it for bits - you'd be surprised - my son put his old T.V. on as the picture was going and got £37!

Sorry you didn't find a way to fix this.  The lovely chap in Devonshire Road in Chiswick has a shop full of electrical bits and bobs and when I asked him he wasn't very optimistic about LCD TVs.  :(Maybe you can get a replacement from a company where they'll take the old one away - or you can find someone who wants it for spare part surgery.  That might make you feel a bit better.  Taking it somewhere where they leave it out in the rain won't.

Try the repair shop on Devonshire Road (Chiswick), right hand side just up from the Hogarth roundabout.  Knowledgeable, honest and cheap, in my experience.  Though he'll probably tell you to scrap your telly and get a new one.
