"Erections" - Brent Way Polytunnels
Hello everyone,I am the General Manager of Cultivate London, and just wanted to respond to this thread to clarify any misunderstanding about what is going on on the former trading estate in question, on Brent Way. First of all, for those of you who don't know us, we are a horticultural social enterprise and charity, with a primary aim of providing work experience and training for long-term unemployed youth from around Hounslow and Ealing. We have three apprentices, and work with 10 volunteer trainees at a time (30 per year), all who come to us through the job centre and probation services. We grow produce on three sites in Hounslow (Commerce Road, London Road in Isleworth, and most recently, Brent Way), and sell it to businesses and individuals across London. All income is directed back into our training program. You can fund out more about us on our website: www.cultivatelondon.org.Yes, the polytunnels on Brent Way do indeed belong to us, and I am sorry if their appearance has startled or offended anyone. In retrospect, it would have been more considerate of us to consult residents before erecting them, however, as there do not appear to be any homes immediately overlooking the site, we did not think that it was particularly necessary to do so at the time. Once again, apologies for this if we have upset anyone.As for the state of the site, we had originally planned to have the site up and running early in the spring, but due to a variety of factors we were not able to start building on the site until May, by which point our growing season was in full swing on our other two sites. As a result, we were unable to attend to getting the Brent Way site properly up and running throughout the summer, despite our best efforts (hence the weeds and dead tomatoes). However, may I point out that while yes, the site did get a bit over grown, it was certainly no worse than it was before we took it over!Anyway, I hope that this clears the matter up to a degree.
