Tram or monorail between Hammersmith and Heathrow back on the agenda

With the imminent opening of the fantastic new Terminal 2 and with  Heathrow virtually running with 5 terminals at capacity, the amount of new passnegers and staff transferring to and from central London is set to increase dramatically.Realising that the Tube, trains and roads are clogged most of the time and with the Golden Mile going through a resurgence at the moment with new hotels, car dealerships, flats,shops, offices and future Brentford Stadium being built, meaning lots of workers and customers travelling along this route, is it time to put this proposal back on the agenda? I think it would be a very popular and "green" form of transport which could be built with little disruption/planning or  infrastructure required. The driverless PODS which whisk passengers and staff from the long stay carparks to the Terminal every few minutes are a fantastic idea and I am shocked that this form of transport has not been looked at elsewhere.At present during the day there is no bus that runs all the way down the A4 from Hammersmith to Heathrow (only the Night 97).I would propose running it from Heathrow all the way up to Hammersmith and round to High Street Kensington with a terminus near Hyde Park.

Hi, I stand corrected, the N97 only goes to Hammersmith, what I was suggesting is that the N9 which is a night bus becomes a 24 hour bus and does the whole route from Aldwych to Heathrow 24/7.

The N9 runs from Hammersmith to Heathrow via Brentford. Why is there a need to duplicate this route?

Getting back to the initial comment re tram/monorail, There seem to be no response/support for extending the N97 from Hammersmith to Heathrow. This would make it easier for those of us with heavy baggage to get direct to the Airport. I have previously written twice to TFL who said they would consider the idea, but it needs support from YOU the readers to make them realise that with the increase in housing on the route from Hammersmith to the airport it would fill an urgent need and alleviate some of the crowding problems, as an interim measure until such time as other longer term measures are implemented. This is a no brainer, only an extension to an existing service!.

"Tram-line is just another way to transport cattle.  And people with cattle-like mentalities.  Nothing that will benefit this country."This is just gibberish, isn't it?  In what way does investing in transport infrastructure in the UK not benefit the UK?  In what way do people coming in and out of the UK on business, for academic conferences or just for tourism not benefit the UK?Anyway, tram - possibly, monorail - nonsense.

There is no tram-link.  There never will be.  And no monorail either. Sensible but too expensive.it's just a supposition.Same as analogy with Boris courting the Chinese.We should be cultivating trade - of items not people - we are a small island - if people from the rest of the world want to come here on holiday then they should pay for the privilege to come here - we shouldn't be trying to entertain those who try to make out they have a couple of bob or those greedy souls who've sold their house and land to an agent to be smuggled into this country because at the end of the day they're all just 3W peasants.Heathrow should concentrate on what its good at - hub for importing and exporting goods to/from the rest of the world etc.  It doesn't need to expand to take in passenger chattel.  The very rich will do exactly as they do these days - fly into city airport - get picked up by chauffeur - etc.Tram-line is just another way to transport cattle.  And people with cattle-like mentalities.  Nothing that will benefit this country.  So it's not needed, Robin.

No it ain't.Heathrow is a has been. Like Croydon airport of yesteryear.At least in the 1930s people were weighed with their luggage.The only surviving London airport will be the one which caters for the 'super-rich' and not the hoi-polloi/neauvue riche peasants from over-populated nations.As I said to Boris, we are but a small island and therefore should court exclusivity and not prostitute ourselves to a whole nation - and a nation at that who really hasn't forgiven your fore-fathers for the unfortunate exploitation of the opium trade.We don't need to expand any airport. For travellers.
