Path stopped/Catherine Wheel Yard to Dock Rd

The bridge from Catherine Wheel Yard to Jacobs Island has newly installed scaffolding being built around it, a section of wall has been demolished and a notice has been posted on the bridge saying the pathway to Dock Rd will be closed from 4th November to 20th December. The notice is from LBH and quotes various bits of legislation for its authority.It's good that the bridge is being maintained but it will be a pain for myself and many others who enjoy the walk along the canal and will face a diversion to reach the delights of the Brewery Tap.......I neglected to take written details of the notice and searched the LBH website without success for details of the work involved.....Does anyone have any info on this? I have no problem with the works, if needed, would just like to know more....As an aside I wonder what conditions will be attached to Ballymore's planning application for ensuring access is maintained to the canal side along traditional routes presuming they get approval for their grand scheme in November.....

Bridge was still open tonight though a lot more scaffolding in place. High tides for the next week or so which will restrict work. Work is apparently due to both bridges onto Johnsons Island and by the Canal ...trust the bridge over Thames Lock. Give us a clue as to the pictures location Jim, I don't know it.....

Isn't this the hidden and private walkway to Cyder Island?I heard that Mr Kyle used to tie his launch alongside.

You can just about read the message that was painted on the corrugated iron fence on the left side of the alley entrance, Cyder Island, no cats, no dogs, no wallys!I haven't seen any cats there!

Apologies, Johnson's or rather Dr Johnson's.... with or without apostrophe....... I would not walk that wall, even for the Tap.......

Johnsons Island, although there used to be a painted message on the fence  to the left as you approach from the Tap that read 'Cyder Island'.Many years ago the bridge was washed away, the only way to get over to the Tap was to walk across the narrow concrete wall, not too bad on the way over but rather daunting on the way back, mucky canal one side and 8 foot drop to concrete on the other! Still, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do!

Do you mean "Johnson's Island"?Jacob's Island used to be in Bermondsey and was featured in Oliver Twist:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob%27s_IslandJL.
