Chiswick Roundabout/Kew Bridge

Does anyone know why the traffic is so congested?  Got a bus from Gunnersbury station to Brentford on Wednesday evening and the 237 turned right onto the Great West Road and then into Ealing Road.  I know they were moving a tree but there appeared to be something else beyond that. Today I went to Kingston and on the way back to Brentford the traffic was just inching along and had tailed back to Kew Gardens.  They decided to terminate the 65 in Brentford instead of continuing to Ealing Broadway.

It would get a lot worse if a football stadium and over 900 new high rise homes were to be built nearby off Lionel Road.

Probably the knock on effect of the M25 being shut at J24 for most of the day. Trafic news reported the M25 at a stand still through Kent and Surry clock-wise and the A406 solid from Chiswick to Chingford. Basically all major routes in and out of London were gridlocked.
