In recent years the Central Hounslow Area Committee was advised on the potential costs of festive lights. Last year, given the multicultural nature of the area, the lights were erected in advance of Diwali, and this year there was the opportunity to cover the festival of Eid as well.I am certain that no report was provided to committee this year, and therefore I assumed the festive lights would go ahead as before. I will raise the matter of official vandalism of the tree lights when we next have a monitoring committee. The one due on 16th December has been cancelled, no doubt because it would interfere with some of my colleagues' merrymaking! The costs we have beeen provided with in the past include the electricity bills and the charge by the council trading unit for erecting the lights. September/October 2003 Area Committee agendas will no doubt contain the full details of costings for last year.
