My dad's old Library contains a book called "Arcadian Thames" "The River Landscape (Strategy) from Hampton to Kew" published by Barn Elms. The section dealing with Brentford's Riverside is critital of past developement decisions...suggesting that views from the Kew side of the river could have been better. Of course, Brentford's industrial past is now being more appreciated. Whether Hounslow Councillor's from the other side of the Borough will have any warm feelings for Brentford's heritage...we will find out on Tuesday.Referring to the area around Ealing Road (Watermans offices etc)"the heavy red brick and dark expansion joints of the building also look clumsy against the few remnants of the 19th Century docklands architecture""The St George's BLOMFIELD Church sits on the edge of the gas works developement site but its river connections remain. (hopefully after Tuesday too)"It is aligned on a vista straight down the Kew/Syon reach between Lots Ait and the Brentford Aits, as well as across the Thames to the Kew towpath from where it can be glimped...framed between the Brentford Aits".The idea that in a few years time there could be four interesting linked cultural venues along that Brentford Waterfront appeals. They could help each other. The Watermans Art Centre (+ a new concealed dustbins area!), The old Church (and School) ,the new Piano Museum.and the Steam Museum.Also..why not defer the decision for a couple of years...until other developements have settled down.
