The great Tesco coupon mystery.......

Like many people I imagine we keep our Tesco points coupons and exchange them at Christmas, so today off we went. When we got to the till we were told that three of the coupons totalling £26 "had already been used"! Well as they are taken by the cashier when you use them that simply isn't possible is it? SO off we went to the customer services desk - who predictably said nothing to do with us - 'phone Clubcard. Having 'phoned Clubcard we were informed that the coupons were used in Essex back in April by someone called Gary!! We explained that this was ridiculous as we were sitting indoors with the coupons and anyway none of us here is called Gary let alone visited Essex. This has now been referred to Tesco's fraud investigation department - well - did you ever? We can only assume there's been a fault at Tesco's end or someone has hacked into their computer system and managed to download coupons  - weird or what?

This happened to me online a few years back,I had ordered something expensive & went to pay for it with points gathered overtime,half of them had been used already it took our daughter a good hour to sort it out both on the phone & online.At the end of that time after much putting her point across that they couldn't possibly have been used that my original points value was returned and the item bought.However that along with only being able to spend points on certain things I stopped shopping at Tesco's.Silly really they lost a lot of money,I now shop at Sainsbury's excellent service & a good point's system.

Well presumably Gary has a card with the same number as one of us?? And if that were the case have we lost out on any vouchers that may have gone off to Essex, we may never know.......

I thought the number from your card had to correspond to those on the voucher. Surely that's the way it should be? They are 'rewards' for your 'loyalty' not any Tom , Dick or Gary (sorry..!)

Greedy Gary may have used your vouchers with HIS own clubcard!

Yes, we had our cards with us - and I have every expectation it will get sorted as they also have Gary's surname, of course it could be a muck-up with the card or coupon issuing process. I would think if someone has a scam running then Tesco will be on the case very quickly.

Gary in Essex eh? They may need to narrow it down a bit...shame about this happening to you Vanessa. Something similar happened to someone I know and it was sorted out in the end tho' I obviously don't know if they perp was caught. Don't you have to have your loyalty card with you when you use these coupons? I always have mine so don't know if it is essential or not as they do provide a form of ID. The mysterious Gary may have had to clone your card if this is true tho' if he has hacked into their computer he could probably transfer the points to a 'ghost' account and make it appear that they have been used.I wonder how much value is stolen this way. Good luck in getting it sorted.
