Have you noticed?

The amount of those orangey coloured barriers that are used for pavement and highways works abandoned all over the place? There is one left down the road from us from 13 July when a tree was removed and another one propped up behind a lamp-post. Needless to say one of them has found its way into our access road. I expect these things cost quite a bit so why can't Hounslow Highways or their contractors go around and pick them up? They seem to be all over the place recently.

Well one problem solved, the barrier dumped in the access road has been half-inched.

I've used fixmystreet successfully to report abandoned homeless street signs left over after highways work.

That damage to cables recently took out a lot of internet and phone connections for a week didn't it?  I wouldn't want to spend extra money on a barrier hotline like the cone hotline but surely it should be a part of completing the work.  How many different groups of people does it take nowadays to do any work?  Liaison should be written into a contract with a penalty clause for not liaising properly in good time.

My worry is that there are so many left around teh streets that anyone after climbing into a manhole to steel cable can easily set up a set of street barriers and help themselves without apprearin suspicious.  I have seen them used, along with pavement closed signs, to work on a 'do it yourself' crossover.  :-(
