Hi SimonNo decision taken yet but it is looking increasingly likely, and we have always said we will be prepared and ready if we do go for it which is why we have been on an election footing from day one.People vote in the way they do for all sorts of reasons.  For some it is about the performance of their own councillors, others take a more general view about the local authority itself.  Some will use a local election as a vehicle for making a protest against the government, or even for reaffirming their support for it.  But I agree, in an ideal world local issues ought to be the determining factor.

Phil - Are the ICG standing in May?  Because i for 1 want to see the End of the Labor Councillors in Isleworth and it should be about how local people feel about their Councillors not how the Civic Center is being Run weather the ICG stand or not Surely.

Councillor Sharma is fully entitled to put a picture of his wife and himself on his Christmas card if he so wishes. I am delighted how in this country people of all backgrounds  are now  happy  to wish each other  Merry Christmas  rather than the euphemistic Happy Holidays that used to be favoured by the "politically correct".

Clearly Phil (ICG Campaigns manager) is struggling for credible copy.Cllr J. Sharma in the spirirt of Christmas sent a Christmas card to all LBH Members and clearly others.  There was no mention of LBH or his role. His call, his style and  cost. The sneering pettiness is unwarranted.

SarahI think the point of my OP was that most people send Christmas cards with pictures of angels, snowmen, Santa or maybe even Jesus.  Hounslow Labour politicians, it would seem, send out cards featuring pictures of themselves.  That rather tells us something about these people and the sense they have of their own importance, don't you think?

VanessaYou will believe whatever you feel most comfortable with, and I'll not try to deny you that.  But you have conveniently ignored my comment about why the councillors, if they thought we were insincere, did not call our bluff.  Indeed they did the opposite, going immediately onto the attack in a bizarre and extraordinary way against an opponent they had already defeated.  There is no other possible explanation for this odd behaviour other than that they wanted to make it clear to us that they didn't want our support.  Indeed I seem to recall yourself and a certain other former user of this forum insisting "Why should they work with you?".Obviously to court opposition in this way when it has the potential to cause an upset entitles them to a certain amount of respect - clearly they have stuck to their principles, whatever they may be.  But let us not attempt to rewrite history when it is as well documented as this particular episode.  The Internet is a wonderful resource when the record is challenged.

I have no doubt at all that your view will be that they are not.About as much doubt in fact as the amount of doubt you had when you made your historic pledge (I imagine).

Oh! Come off it - you know full well you'll be putting up candidates next May  - you can't contain yourselves at the thought of having the chance to oust the sitting Labour members. But it saddens me to say they are handing the seats over on a plate from what I have seen.

The ICG made it abundantly clear three years ago that we wouldn't run if this administration could find it within itself to engage with the local community as equals.  And for those who believed that our position was insincere, it would have been quite easy to call our bluff as we would have lost all credibility if we'd then gone back on our word.Do you think this administration is engaging with the local community as equals?Go on Guy, stick your neck out.  You have an opportunity to help us make a decision here and to claim your place in local history.

To be honest Vanessa I am surprised that Jagdish has held on for so long and at one time thought that Ruth Cadbury was a certainty to oust him but I think its now an open secret that Ellar has enough support to finally get the position he has craved for so long
