Christmas Trees on the Great West Road ?

Where are they?Recent incomers won't understand the question.

The 'Golden Mile' used to be a Christmas treat to be driven from Beecham House to Gillette Corner.The Beecham Trees were spectacular but I can't remember now whether they were all white lights or all coloured. I recall they changed one year but cannot remember which way round.The Martini tree was festooned with small italian coloured lights, lots of pinks and light greens, The Gillette trees with big British coloured lights with reds, warm yellows, deep blue and green,Firestones with the Cherry trees in red and the dozen plus trees in all colours. A big tree at Tricos. It looked great.I gather this year Barratts bowed to pressure from the residents to not have Christmas trees on the GWQ site as it was inappropriate and deemed offensive to the majority of residents.What can one say!  Such a Shame.

Yes, Sky TV's was the only tree I saw this year... and it seems the same one as in past years.

Eddie Menday reminiscences on past Christmases and a visit to Regent Street this year :"On the way home we travelled along the Great West Road hoping to re-live the famous decorations of the past but were so disappointed. I remember the great palaver (and excitement) when we used to put up the tree outside Honeywell (now Great West House)

Agree - went along there yesterday and absolutely nothing, you'd think with all the profit they make one tree wouldn't hurt them.

First time for a long time thta Smith Glaxo Kline (whatever the name is !) haven't had trees up. Very disappointing.

Hi Jim - my first thought was Firestone!! Same here, very few Christmas trees, and decorations in general actually. Oh well, times change. Are you going north for Christmas Jim? Whatever you do I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

I'm old enough to understand the question Jim and I remember the trees and lights of the Great West Road with great fondness.  We used to take the kids along to see them as a treat each year.  Can you dig some of your wonderful photos out and show people what we are talking about?
