Missing bridge....

The pedestrian bridge between Johnsons Island and Thames lock is no longer in place...... hopefully removed for maintenance rather than scrap value.... The gap looked very odd at high tide yesterday afternoon. There is a huge amount of water coming down the thames at the moment and the Barrier has been closed today to limit the effect of the spring tide......

Thanks Jim for the pointer to the Brentford Lock Residents site, http://www.brentforddockresidents.co.uk/ and the pictures/video which explained the missing bridge. It is now up on the MSO hardstanding, covered in white plastic so they can work on it.. Really clever how they use the power of a rising tide, a pontoon and a few ropes plus Tin Tin to lift it and direct under the Dock Rd bridge to the waiting crane..... Agree with the comments about Hans, spent an hour or so exploring his and others photos on flicker....some great pics.... Bridge due back on the 14th, wonder if they will make it?

Agree about Hans, Jim. His pictures are fantastic and I love it when he puts a comment under them. Sometimes I don't immediately recognize where his photograph was taken but if he puts a comment it helps. It is always a pleasure to open Flickr and see new views of the old town.

Iain, I'm sure you'll find all the information you need on the excellent Brentford Dock Residents' website... and in pictures too.Indeed I would suggest that Hans over there...is a Brentford hero... for posting many fine pictures about what's going on South of the High Street.
